This is another proof of concept puzzle, with the goal of creating a very large unclued region. This example has a 9x9 "hole" in the middle. I believe 10x10 shouldn't be too difficult to pull off, but I think far larger holes are possible.
Shade some cells so that all shaded cells form one orthogonally connected area. Regions with numbers must contain the indicated amount of shaded cells. There may not exist a run of more than three consecutive shaded or unshaded cells horizontally or vertically anywhere in the grid.
There is now one with a 13 by 13 hole on Puzzle Square JP: https://puzsq.jp/main/puzzle_play.php?pid=15327.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm pretty sure holes of arbitrary sizes have been proven possible but this is the largest I've seen in a legitimate non-proof-of-concept puzzle by far. Thanks for sharing!
